- 10 days after seeing Jonsi, I was able to secure a $10 ticket to see another artist who over the last year has helped me get through some tough times with his whimsical earthy, folk music that I grew up loving as a child on Martha's Vineyard from predecessors like Dylan, Taylor and Stevens to name a few. Ferraby Lionheart's new album "The Jack of Hearts" like his previous endeavors are a welcoming slice of warm apple pie that whenever I pop the cd in or listen to it on my Ipod- it's like seeing an old friend again and picking up where you left off. He'll be playing in Cambridge Boston at TT The Bears and after seeing his last years performance which he opened for Noah and the Whale- (in my humble opinion he ran circles around Noah.) I can't wait for another night of killer music. Enjoy his video below and support this musician- he is one cat just like Jonsi/Sigur Ros who you feel really honestly truly loves what they do and their music shows us just that. That is magic-that is honesty-

Vulva Scent
Yes exactly what the title says. I get these little nuggets from friends sometimes and thought to pass it along here. It's a scent that smells like a woman's flower. Made in Europe and the commercial is below. Some very fun stuff, if you're alone and needing some love...at least you can spritz this on your "magic wand."
Enjoy and yes you can also buy t-shirts

Bill Paxton Pinball

There are some things money can buy and with a little love and dedication, this is an example of just that. I'm a huge fan of Bill Paxton and when a friend sent me this- I wish there was a way to magically transport me to this gentleman's house for even an hour. Just to send those balls flying.
I would hope that if you lost a round that he has it programed to say, "Game over man!"
One can only dream. Kudos brother!

"Sever" artcl:3
Several nights later we decided to go back to the warehouse. Now on this night unlike any other we started off by sitting in a pub call the “O.” No it doesn’t stand for what you think it means. It was a place in Oakland, Pittsburgh between downtown and Carnegie where you could get a pitcher of beer and a pizza pie for $10. They also had they’re “O” fries which were killer.
Steve, Jen and myself were sitting there from what my memory serves and the conversation came up on what to do that night. Movie? Hang out? Or hedge? Steve and I had recently climbed a bridge at night which I think I already mentioned that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone unless you have a death wish.
This time we had Jen and she had seen us climb a trestle once before during the day and that was hairy in itself because she kept yelling up at us that we were going to die. Not really the thing you want to hear while 100’+ up in the air. So doing that again with here in the same zip code is not really on the table for discussion.
Steve suggested we go back to the warehouse and climb around there at night. Jen wasn’t a big fan to say the least and I was impartial, basically the why not? Attitude.
We devoured our grease and beer and Steve drove us there in his rust colored 1980’s something Cadillac. We get down to the Strip District which is a ghost town this time of night around 9pm if I had to guess. We parked a block or two away so not to have the cops discover us. Between the wind howling through the streets, empty buildings and the random echo of a squeaky grocery cart being pushed. We ran to the blind side of the building and around back.
Now we had been there before at night and it was the scariest place during the day, but at night it had a sinister feeling about it as if someone had walked across your grave.
All we had is our usual: Two not three, but two small Mag Lights.
We stand at the back of the building and stare up at the entrance on where we go in. Now my heart was racing faster than it did in the building a few days earlier. The place was eerily silent. Steve was ready to go in, but something came over me, I don’t know what it was, gut feeling, seeing the future, who the hell knows. But I stood up and said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea to go in tonight.” Jen before this was not having it anyway so to convince her was not an issue. She was scared and totally freaked out. I don’t think she had traveled with us inside at all during the night. Perhaps once, fuzzy on that fact.
Steve called me a “pussy” and was going to go anyway. I told him it wasn’t a good idea yet again and he insisted. Finally after Jen begging and pleading with him we didn’t go.
Steve of course was pissed, but what are you going to do? We left and I cannot remember what happened the rest of that night. I could make something up, but it could have been a various number of things.
The next morning I awake, turn on the tele and make a cup of coffee. As I’m taking a sip in my kitchen I see a familiar site on the morning news. I run over to turn up the volume to discover “our” warehouse on the news. The cops were standing right where we had come out just a few days earlier and had scared those taggers.
As I sit on my yellow paisley couch and dug my toes into my multi brown shag carpet. The news reporter revealed that a body had been found in the first floor of that building. It was of a suspect they called the “Nazi Vampire Killer” I kid you not. I don’t know why they called him this, I don’t remember them exactly saying if he left a note but I feel he did. They discovered his body among a ring of candles. He had killed himself.
Come to find out, we had several killings in the area over the last several months in and around my neighborhood of Bloomfield where they were finding decapitated heads in dumpsters. One in fact had been discovered near my ex-girlfriends place.
They basically put this guy at the scene of the crime from what little I remember about the details. I called Steve up and told him to turn on the television. “I told you so,” I said. It was one of the few times in my life I listened to my gut and we were right to stay out of there.
We never saw anything prior and I don’t know if this was the guy with the hatchet. But Steve and I didn’t visit for exactly one year. And even after that we only went there one more to check out where he died. The place had at this point been fenced off.
…next artcle. Another life experience that forged the script of “Sever.”

"Sever" artcl:2

Listening to "This Mortal Coil" at the moment while I write this
which sends me back to the early 90's living in Pittsburgh and going to college at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I was an Industrial Design Technology Major, which is fancy for getting a degree in learning to make kiosks for trade shows..go figure. I went for make-up FX.
So bare with me and this little diversion from my last entry at least for a moment as I explain two instances that led me to write Sever. Let me jump to the second first. The second moment that changed my life was in around 1991. A lot was a blur then, between working on films as a prop guy 24/7 and going to school I’ve been able to become a robot.
So a close friend mine at the time Steve and I used to "hedge" which is a term or slang for all I know about climbing the outsides of buildings, bridges etc. Something we just like to do with no nets, ropes or anything fancy like that.
It was pretty hairy to say the least, walking underneath railroad trestles during a full moon or abandoned buildings at night with only a flashlight. I have been scared in my life, but nothing has scared me like these two 5 story buildings located along one of the Alleghany River in Pittsburgh.
They were skeletons now, broken windows, debris everywhere, stairwells knocked down by DEA agents to keep the riff raff (me) out and off the top three floors. Not a chance, Steve and I had been all through out these buildings day and night. Both of us have had near misses in that place which I can go on about on another thread. But there were these two times I felt true fear and from what I can recount probably the only times in my life I was ever that scared.
1. We had ventured into the basement of building two. We each had small pen like flashlights. The safety of the structure didn’t bother us as much as the homeless who hid amongst the shadows here.
So we get down to the bottom of the stairs and there is a room with no windows. I'm the first who walks in, then Steve...I think he was with me, I might have gone in by myself, can't remember exactly. It was dark, darker than anything I've ever seen. The place smelled musty, I could hear water trickling down the walls. It was a stale musty silence, and I could literally hear my heart beating, loudly. I scanned the narrow beam around the room only illuminating a small portion of space at a time. Nothing. But man I could feel as if someone was standing just out of reach-
2. On a different day, late afternoon. The sun was setting across the river. Orange light poured in and throughout the building. Steve and I climbed up in through building ONE, went across a rotted wooden bridge into the other. From the 2nd floor of building TWO we wanted to see how long it would take to get to the roof. We split up and each of us had been here now 5+ times so we knew the buildings pretty well. We made it to the top no worries. The sun is lower now and we begin to hear a pounding of muffled metal to metal or maybe to wood. It echoes through the structures remains.
Steve and I race down two floors and pin point the sound...it came from building one, on the floor above where we could get out. As I come to the window adjacent I see a man or actually an arm holding a shiny new hatchet catching the glint off the barrel fire. It scared the hell out of me. Steve was my witness, I assumed he was just chopping wood for the fire. But we didn’t wait around.
We freaked and ran down to the first floor of the building and as we approached a window to get out. Another group of taggers were trying to get in. The saw us running at them from the outside and bolted like a shot out of hell. I guess thinking that we were crazy vagrants coming to eat them. It was the funniest God damn thing I ever saw. They were scared shitless and by the time we got out of the building they were at the other block and still going.
Never the less, followed...
…..next artcl. We discover someone famous is living in the warehouse.
About the images:
These buildings are the ones I mentioned and they look the same in the first pic as they did in 1991-1993. Located in the strip district (on the south shore of the Allegheny River), are now high-end lofts (not photographed). Notice the tree growing on the roof of one of the structures. Thanks to Jeffery Eck for the updated information about the lofts (11/12/06). Photo taken 10/8/01.

"Sever" artcl:1
It took me that long to figure out and decide on which avenue less traveled I should venture that was in my head. By this point my life had changed, I was in England overseeing the edit on two films and this was my second time over there. I arrived and was detained for several hours in London, when finally arriving at my destination November 2007. I stayed in a pub called The Buck Inn, actually it’s a B&B of sorts in the North East of the country. It was a place located in the middle of a tiny village called Chop Gate(Yat) a Viking term. It’s along a busy stretch of road which I eventually would hike 4 miles a day down on my next trip over.
I digress, it was raining and the tele only picked up four channels. Now this being a Sunday and I had no transportation mind you so it was a perfect stay in and write day- plus have a pint or two and Yorkshire pudding. Now I know you're thinking Yorkshire Pudding sounds like Blood Sausage when in fact they are nothing alike. Yorkshire Pudding is a very yummy meal that consists of a meat, potatoes, veg and the pudding is a honey color glazed tiny bread bowl or more like fried dough with no powered sugar sprinkled on top. The slices of beef or ham sit on top and covered with gravy, very tasty.
But before all of this as my reward I sat there hours earlier with a cup of tea, staring at the same laptop that sits on my lap now. I wrote the end of the film. It was easy, perhaps too easy for after I completed this years long task, the last 20 pages came out too easy. I sat there and thought- "That's it?"
Now this is neither a good thought or bad mind you as it can be perceived either way. It was a thought of “wonder.” Wondering if this "was" actually it. I re-read it and still wondered.
So I did what any writer would do, I put my computer to sleep and went to have a pint or two....

"Let The Right One In"

Just finished watching a screener to see if we're going to pick it for a midnight show at the upcoming Martha's Vineyard Film Festival this March.
I have to say that even with the critics raving about this film it meets up to expectations and more. I was instantly taken in by Osker and Eli's relationship. Truly a great chemistry between them that left me with a big old smile on my face. This is one for my library and I may have to watch it again before the festival. It deeply stuck with me.

Darkside Films - The Final Frontier

"SEVER" FEATURE & THE FIRST 12 WEBISODIC EPISODES
Darkside Films is currently accepting donations for their upcoming project, "Sever."
We know that in this economic time it's hard for anyone to keep their chin up- let alone donate to company they may have not heard anything about.
But after years of toiling with investors, distributors etc. We have decided to go right to the fans themselves who we work for and along with. We are in the stages of creating a new frontier of media from the Darkside Films company.
A Darkside Films channel is being created for viewers to visit and watch current programming
such as the "Sever" 12 Webisodic Series that will begin airing in October 2009. Which will be downloadble for $1.50 per 20 minutes episodes. Only $18.00 for four hours of high quality material.
The "Sever" feature will be downloadable for $5.00.
FREE Behind the Scene featurette's, interviews, blogs, Darkside Blog Talk Radio, Darkside Girls. This is only the beginning.
We will also put out a DVD/Soundtrack set that will contain a full color coffee table book from behind scene stills to production shots, T-Shirts, signed posters and further merchandise.
So even if you own the DVD or you just download the Webisodic series and other featurettes we feel you'll have more information you'll know what to do with about this series.
We already have plans to do an additional 24 Webisodes in 2010 that will continue the saga.
So this is what we're about and how we want to give back to you our loyal fans. All films will be shot using the RED ONE camera so you know the quality will be there and the downloads will be in HD. The DVD will be in red and blue ray.
The "Sever" feature and series will be UNRATED.
All we're asking for is a small donation of $100.00 which you can either pay online via paypal or you can send us a check or money order to the address below. All donations will be held in a non interest barring account under Darkside Films LLC and if the films are not made due to lack of financing. Then all monies will be returned to donors.
We encourage you to download the PDF to the left and read more about this project. You would need to send us the signed attacment on the document so that we both have a record of your donation. We're offering several items to the donor including their name in the end credits. So it's worth a look.
We also plan on having more deals and giveways as we get closer to the October deadline.

"The Crow" Re-imagined...why?...Why?

I received this LINK from a friend today and it totally depressed me. With all the remakes, re-imagined, re-whatevers in the works this one really bothers me and I find it incredibly insulting to the filmmakers of the original film. But mainly to Brandon Lee who lost his life on making the film. It's a sad, sad day in Hollywood where we have to re-do films that were only made a few years ago.
I had always wanted to direct a "Crow" film and am certain I could do a bang-up job with the material that Mr. O'barr has poured his blood sweat and agony over. But after reading this...no thanks.

Childhood legends are falling...

Today despite a nasty little cold I'm battling. I'm writing with a heavy heart. This week has been really depressing in the world of cinema. Betty Page, a woman I've had a crush on for a lifetime is in the hospital after suffering a massive heart attack and may not pull through. Beverly Garland whom I grew up and played the hot 2nd wife on "My Three Son's" and some Roger Corman classics such as "Swamp Women" has passed away.
Then Forrest J. Ackerman, a cult hero of mine as a child reading his "Famous Monsters of Filmland" plus he had a bit part in the movie I mentioned here a few weeks ago "Future War" where he is seen in the park reading his famous mag and is devoured by our rubber dinosaur. He was a sweet man and will be sorely missed.
Added to that an actor whom I had met and had various conversations with over the years, Paul Benedict. Though his name may not conjure box office hits, he was famous as George Jefferson's neighbor in "The Jefferson's" plus worked with Christopher Guest in "This is Spnal Tap," "Waiting for Guffman" and "Mighty Wind." I first met Mr. Benedict back in '97 when I came back to Martha's Vineyard for a year breather from LA and was working at a friends video store here- (Island Entertainment, one of the best I've ever been in and I'm not just saying that.)
Paul came in to rent some flicks and I recognized him for "The Jefferson's." We chatted about films from that day on. I worked there for less than a year before going back to LA, but I knew through my friend who is now the owner that he would come in everyday and rent films and chat them up behind the counter. He would even ask Anne, (my friend and owner) to put on certain films that he liked, so that he could show her scenes of brilliance.
Paul was a quiet fellow who I would see in the grocery store and we would occasionally drive by one another or see each other in the coffee shop. He was a gem of person and my regret as such is life is not to have spoken to him more about film and theater.
Paul was found dead Monday December 1st at his home here on Martha's Vineyard. No one knows how long he had been there, he lived alone and was supposed to be with family on Thanksgiving. He never made it. I had just seen him days prior pass me on the street. Some people you never expect to pass, but this week has really been a quiet reminder about our mortality.
There will be a retrospective of Paul and his work January 17th at the Vineyard Playhouse here on Martha's Vineyard. I will post more info once I know more.

New Trailers to check out

- CLICK ON POSTERS TO VIEW TRAILERS -A slight detour from what I sometimes write about. This has to do with a few trailers I've seen lately and would like to pass on my two cents to you, the film loving community. I hope you'll check out these little slices of hope as I will.
I love trailers frankly and love cutting them, sometimes it's the best part of the movie. What makes a killer trailer are ones that make you want to stand up and cheer or force those light hairs on the back of your neck stand up- or better yet, fill all those emotions including the slight tearing up as a hero who may enter screen right or an actor who has dusted off the cobwebs of time to emerge and deliver a memorable performance that hasn't been seen in a millennium.
Case in point-
"The Wrestler"
I'm a huge Mickey Rourke fan and have been since I was a teenager. My favorite film of his is "Angel Heart" and if you haven't seen it, I suggest you run and not walk to your local Ballbuster video store or cue it in your Netflix. There is a scene, well, I'm not going to say where in the movie because it may give too much away. But there is a scene that just gives you the "one, two" punch! You'll know it when it arrives and to this day it stays with me. He's a true gem of an actor who's taken his licks and nothing makes me happier than cats that come back from the mat for a knock-out and I can't wait to see this film purely just to watch him breath.
The next film I can't wait to see is from another actor who I've always enjoyed watching just to see what the hell he was going to do next. Good 'ol Jean Claude Van Damme, yes laugh, we all have a secret desire to watch his movies although you might not admit it. Now when I came across the trailer of his new film "JCVD" I was skeptical, but none the less wanted to give him a chance and I'm very happy I did. This looks like a killer flic and I'm sure it'll be whole hellova lot of fun to watch.
This post is looking more like a resurrection list of talent that time forgot so I will add another long time hero of mine and I'm sure yours if you're a Horror fan. The man himself, Mr. Bruce Campbell. Now Bruce is on a hit TV show and has made a career out of being the heal, the hero, the action star and even the man with two brains. But his new film, "My Name is Bruce" looks like a barrel of FUN! Bruce directs and stars in this Horror/Comedy which he made on his property in Oregon. Independent filmmaker through and though. I can't wait to see this little ray of sunshine, though where I live I may have to wait until video since even the new Bond movie hasn't made it here yet.
Those are my picks for this evening, I'll have another set up tomorrow, until then.

NIN_Worcester, MA show
Finally after 20 years of listening to NIN I finally popped my cherry and had a chance to go to probably one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen. There are so many reasons why I love this band and what Trent stands for as an artist and how he treats his loyal fans and this night was no exception.
The original show was supposed to take place back in August but he had to cancel due to an illness. Patiently I waited a few months until finally that day came and man it was well worth the wait. I can't remember what I paid for the tickets, it was the going rate at the time of when I bought them- probably $35 or $50 bucks. But I would have spent 5x times that in a heartbeat and especially after witnessing a killer gig like this it would have been money well spent.
Trent and Co. tore ass right out of the gate. I can't even remember which song they started with, it was all a happy blur of lights-technology-spirit and adrenaline ass kicking all rolled into one.
They played tracks from basically every album, covering about 31 or so songs in 2 hours. Trent also introduced the Godfather of Goth Peter Murphy, which was an incredible treat and who sang "Reptile" with them.
One of the other things I admire about Trent beyond his musical talent is a guy who always is revolutionizing his style and the use of technology. I have VHS tapes from 20 years ago of one of their gigs in Cleveland where there was a chain link fence, blood, fights and dreadlocks involved. Trent has come a long way as a smart business man and an incredible force that people either get or don't, but he doesn't care. I've always had the utmost respect for him going it "his own way." He is one of two artists who's work I still buy hard copies off and this show was something that was just one for the books.
BTW here is an embedded video of the show from a fellow fan.
Nine Inch Nails - Worcester, MA - 08, Nov from Sébastien B. on Vimeo.
One of the oddest things I have to admit seeing was not the two sisters next two me making out and grinding away on each other during the opening tracks. But was the sea of old school lighters flickering in the still hot air next to the eerie glows from hundreds of mobile phones during "Hurt." I'm not old fashion by any means, but this was just an oddity to me seeing the meld of two generations coming together to see a force of nature such as NIN take place. It was an experience I'll happily never forget.

Can the dead talk?
I've always been interested in criminology and came very close during the end of my college years at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh back in '91 to pursue a career in law enforcement. Part of it was because of my Grandfather who was a Waltham, MA cop, I guess part of it was doing something of worth.
Ironically 90% of my experience with police hasn't been the greatest, but I do believe that there are good police out there trying to do the right thing no matter how much bullshit they need to deal with to get a case turned from red to black.
Needless to say I'm a huge fan of police dramas, books, television, movies etc. Though I find myself rooting for both sides sometimes. Not certain what that means-
This brings me to how I found Miss Brittany Tate, a 21 year old woman from Indianapolis who was killed at the beginning of October of this year. I became aware of Miss Tate from a site called MyDeathSpace.com I had come across this site a few years ago after stumbling across several MySpace pages where the victims & killers pages still existed. It was always an eerie feeling to me to view information like this. I have read non-fiction books about crime scene investigations and have also done boat loads of research on serial killers, the mentally insane and your average criminal. People fascinate me, this is coming from a reccluse of course. But I think what it is, is that they interest me in their actions and I always find myself asking WHY? No matter if the crime has been solved or the killer has confessed, it's always a nagging question in my mind.
Now I go further back to a conversation I was having with my business partner about several projects that we're working on. Both "Sever" and "Frozen" are films that I wrote based off of research, personal experience and stories I've heard over the years etc. "Write what you know," RIGHT?
I guess, but most of my characters in these stories have a beginning middle and an end. With the exception of usually the protagonists who makes a decision and in the end someone is either hurt or killed. Then we as the audience follow and try to figure out why or accept what is happeing in front of us. Sometimes it's satsifactory but within my world of writing I've never come to a complete closure when it comes to characters I write, especially the bad guys or what I call the "grey guys". I guess it's because I've never been happy with the answers I've read or watched in various docs etc. where the "bad guy" gives his excuse why. Which usually placates the listener. So I find it very difficult to give my characters their answers because frankly after years of writing and doing the research, I guess there is no dead-on answer..DAHH No kidding...perhaps.
This brings me back to Miss Tate, I discovered an except on MyDeadSpace which was dated October 3rd 2008. So tonight I did a Google search to see if there was any further news on the case and there was. The full link is below which goes into detail.
She was shot in the head after asking her boyfriend's friend to "not play with a loaded gun" which was what he was doing in the backseat of the car. He didn't like the fact that she told him what to do so he shot her in the head. Now her boyfriend and another friend were also in the car with them. Now I can theorize the WHY until I'm blue in the face and frankly I could probably give you a dead-on or a very close answer to why the boyfriend aided in helping them get rid of the body.
What disturbs me about this story that you can read here, Indianapolis News.
Is that, Miss Tate, who after she is killed and before they dump her body the boyfriend and his two buddies decided to- "abuse her corpse." Now this could mean anything, but I'm thinking the worst.
How could her boyfriend not only sit by and watch this happen, but also participate. This excerpt below from what I assume is a family friend said it perfectly.
"They were so-called friends and that was so-called her boyfriend and he loved her and they cared about each other," Chapman said. "How could they just throw her away, like she was nothing?"
Since the advent of the internet and sites like these, I find myself staying up late at night. Reading about people I've never heard of or even met and try to understand the WHY? Perhaps I never will, Perhaps I'll never accept the answer I'm given. I know it's not denial I'm just looking for a deeper meaning that I hope is there and not something so mundane as...
"I don't like you telling me what to do." Then ending a life of a 21 year old woman from Indianapolis.
If only she could tell us why?

MST3K: FUTURE WAR IS FINALLY HERE!

To all of you who know of this fun little flic. It's finally arrived on DVD as of October 28th and yours truly among several of my close friends also appeared or worked on this classic.
To the rest who have no idea what I'm talking about. "Future War" was a film I worked on back in the mid 90's just after I came off of "Mortal Kombat." It was a low budget Sci-Fi movie that starred Robert Z'Dar (Maniac Cop) and Daniel Bernhardt (Matrix Reloaded) plus a lot of new acting talent.
We shot it in the wonderful city of El Segundo (NOT) and on one of the smallest garage/stages I've ever seen. Though it later became a stage I used to shoot my short "Dead Soul" in.
I was the prop master, weapons wrangler, stunts, acted, stood in for Z'Dar in certain shots where they needed and arm insert or someone being tossed around. Mr. Z'Dar's actual stunt double was Kazja who also played the "mullet" cyborg who "The Runaway" fights.
This was back in the day before the digital revolution and we shot the film on 35MM. I have to say that this film has a warm spot in my heart. It was a total wreck to work on most days, but after just coming off of a $35M dollar picture like "MK" it was actually a hellova lot of fun.
Funny enough, I met three of my closest friends on that show and whom work with me now on my productions. We all thought the movie was a gas while filming and this was at the height of the MST3K comedy reign. I had always been a dedicated fan after first watching an episode New Years Eve 1989, or from what I remember, it was a blur.
Regardless, at the time of "FW" we all thought it would be a killer film to be made fun of by the bots and Joel. But the humor never went beyond the room. Since the film was meant to be a straight "Jurassic Park" and "Terminator" knock-off. Needless to say years later before I left LA this little nugget, this wonderfully goofy movie, my generations "Rocky Horror" aired as one of the last few episodes on MST3K in 1999.
Well I tell you, I was jumping for joy, this poor little low budget movie was now going to appear on my favorite television show and best of all I was going to be made fun of by my flesh and plastic heroes.
Joel had left the show and was replaced by head writer Mike Nelson. I as so many others really dug Joel and for me Mike was a tough sell in the beginning. But he grew on me and beyond that he would mock my ass.
So the calls went out to all my friends who were involved and we gathered on a cool Los Angeles night with beers and BBQ to watch. Let me tell you, it was one of the greatest nights of my life. We were all laughing our asses off and reminiscing about the picture. But in the end we all felt a bit sad, because it was the end of a great show and trip down nostalgia lane.
That particular episode was one of the highest ranking ever for them. The one thing I think we were bummed about though was the fact that we didn't get ribbed enough. There times watching the film we expected to get nailed but didn't.
Then again who can forget classic lines like:
SERVO: "Hey, it's Jean Claude Van Damme!"
MIKE: "Eh, it's more like Jean Claude Gosh Darn"
or
SERVO: "The movie packs more "Huhs" per second!"
I could keep going, but that would take the fun out of it for you. You know I've worked on more movies than I can count and most I remember. But there are few I have fond memories of, this is one of them. "FW" wasn't an easy shoot and perhaps after 13 years of separation, (wow that was a long time ago) memory smoothes things out a bit.
I really wish these cats were still around because I have a few other golden nuggets of cinema I would love to toss their way.
Kudos guys for making us laugh!

Darkside Films: UPDATE
Darkside Films has recently optioned five projects from writer Edward Pickman and they will be put into the pipeline for development asap. We're very excited about the news since the properties vary in genre/scale and expand our current production roster.
The first two screenplays we're moving on are "Nocturnal" (working title) which is a monster movie and "Wetbacks" a comedy dealing with Hollywood's runaway production problems.
We're also pitching an in-house project entitled, "Shifters" a Sci-Fi film noir which deals with two detectives who discover a town in Maine that has many secrets.
Other than that we're still forging ahead with "Frozen" and "Sever" still working out the financial details but all is looking really good right now.

"Frozen" and "Sever" on track

Currently we are looking to shoot our two films "Frozen" and "Sever" in Wisconsin this coming Winter and Spring. We have brought on a new Executive Producer Wayne Clingman who was one of the people instrumental in creating the film tax initiative in his State. Wayne and I met last year at his "It Came From Lake Michigan" film festival where we began our friendship. At the moment despite the economy, we are forging ahead looking for investors to bring these two films to the screen.
We have Letters of Interest from key crew members and most of the actors on both films including almost all of the leads. Plus a Letter to Distribute from a distributor for both pictures.
If you're interested in viewing our Investment Prospectus package please email us here at: d.w.kann@darksidefilms.com
You can also visit the Darkside Films main website where we have trailers and more info about both these projects.

Great White shark sighting off the coast of Martha's Vineyard

I guess we can't catch a break on the little island that could. The Summer is here and now we have several spottings of a 17' Great White shark off the coast. In the day and age of the internet I found these two links for everyone. Hell we even made FOX news.
Of course I heard this the old fashioned way, via a friend who works for the police department. This is all sounding very familiar.
Of course I recently started kayaking again and am not going to let this slow me down. I'll just need a bigger boat.

Bunch of Grapes & Cafe Moxie July 4th fire
My brother on the line.

July 4th is a day for fireworks, bbqs', going to the beach, watching "Jaws" for the 100th time and celebrating the Declaration of Independence. But today on Martha's Vineyard, July 4th will now be synonymous with a fire that destroyed two landmarks which date back to the early 1800's.
Friends of mine, some close and some I haven't seen in years were all there today watching the fire rip through these two buildings. Some of my friends work at the Bunch of Grapes bookstore and some are the firefighters who put out the blaze, including my brother.
No one was killed and only one minor injury occurred from a firefighter which was amazing since the blaze started at 9:15am on a busy warm sunny day- on a little island known to most where they filmed "Jaws" almost 35 years ago or where the Clintons and the Kennedy's vacation.
But to us who have lived here all our lives and for people who have been coming here for nearly that long or longer. It's a little humbling to see a place where you walk by everyday to pick up the paper or to sit on the bench parked in-front of Cafe Moxie now all gone.
Tomorrow all that will be left is the charred remains of a history forgotten.

Going to Cannes!
Yes that's right, I've never been and with two films I just finished producing/editing over in the UK this past Fall/Winter we are taking them to the Cannes Film Festival to lock distribution.
I have also been accepted into the Producers Network at Cannes this year where I'll be able to meet and greet producers/distributors in the industry. Beside working the floor selling the UK productions "Witch House" and "Six Bend Trap," I'll also have press kits for my upcoming films "Sever" and "Frozen" to seek out distribution for those films which I'll be shooting Fall 2008 and winter 2009.
Pictures will follow.

Production looking good for "Sever"
After almost 2 years we are getting closer locking in financing, cast and locations. By Summer we will have finally locked financing and the film will begin shooting on the island of Martha's Vineyard in October 2008.
Location pictures will be uploaded soon.
